Volunteers will assisting with the facilitation of the new Community Emergency Preparedness Program- Week #1: Preparing for Extreme Weather.

This is a three week course and volunteers can choose to participate in all three classes or an individual session. 

Volunteers will need to participate in the training session in January prior to assisting with any of these courses.

Program Overview:

The Community Emergency Preparedness Program is a hands-on educational series offered through local libraries to help Snohomish County residents prepare for emergencies. The program covers essential topics such as understanding local hazards, building disaster kits, and improving air quality during wildfire season by creating box fan filters. Each interactive session will provide expert presentations, engaging activities, and practical takeaways, empowering participants to enhance community safety and resilience.

Week 1: Preparing for Extreme Weather: Learn how to prepare for the increasing risks of extreme weather events like freezing temperatures, flooding, and heavy storms. This class will cover practical strategies for staying safe during these events and ensuring that you have the tools to recover quickly.

Week 2: Building Disaster Kits: In this class, participants will learn how to build an effective disaster kit for your home, car, or workplace. We’ll cover the essential items to include, tips for tailoring your kit to your family’s needs, and how to ensure it’s ready when you need it most

Week 3: How-to-Build a Box Fan Filter: Poor air quality from wildfire smoke or other pollutants can pose serious health risks. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to make an affordable and effective box fan filter to improve air quality in your home. Using simple materials like a box fan and furnace filter, we’ll show you how to create your own air filtration system to keep your family safe during smoky seasons.
